Celebrating our Children on Children’s Day - LITTLE LIGHTS SHINING
This Children’s Day is Special. It is a day to reflect on how we ALL have a role to play to light the children’s lamps so they grow to reflect image of Christ. In our children is the potential for every virtue to be reflected: caring kindness, empathy and compassion.
Even while these values are taught, they are more importantly caught. Find out how, the little ones, our preschoolers are MAKING THEIR LIGHT SHINE for others!
CHILDREN SHINING THEIR LIGHT THROUGH PROJECT GOOD SAM
1800 preschoolers across Singapore shone their light of kindness and compassion to the disadvantaged and their community through Project Good Sam.
Like the Good Samaritan who went out of his way to help someone in need when others would not, our preschoolers showed that they care through their acts of kindness, sharing, empathy and compassion; “loving thy neighbour”, especially those who are in need.
“But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have." ~ Luke 10:33-35
Through Project Good Sam, a total of 26 preschools and 1,800 preschoolers participated in this initiative from March to September 2021. Preschoolers contributed 40,000 hours to this good cause, and collectively raised $34,000 in donations and in-kind, including preparing gift packs for the disadvantaged.
They also rallied about 1,000 parent and alumni volunteers to support this endeavour together as a community.
This was no mean feat especially with the COVID-19 pandemic still raging amongst our community and casting its shadow over everything, including the community. But what an encouragement that our young ones brought in the midst of the pandemic, bringing their Little Light of Love to people in need.
Project Good Sam is a nationwide community service initiative and campaign by the Christian Preschool Alliance (CPA).
